#3 Consult With Experts: Put your pride aside and get help from a career counselor or career coaching certification. It’s an investment that will last a lifetime. People don’t become experts without out experience. A good career counselor or icf singapore also has had a career they’ve managed. In addition to knowing the theory behind career choice and satisfaction, they’ve been through their own career transitions and had their share of challenges. They also have connections to recruiters and know how people really get jobs.
I was recently conducting a Job Club and was asked by a career seeker. “What do I say when the interviewer ask…Now do you have any questions for me?” This is not a question that I’m unfamiliar with, I’ve been asked this in the past but it surprised me this time because it was presented by a job-seeker that has held several positions over a 20 year employment career.
Let your network know now what you are looking for and what company you want to work for. Nearly 70% of the jobs people are getting are from others in their network they know. Remind your network – either through Facebook or LinkedIn – what specific position you’re looking for and what company you are targeting. Doing it once 3 months ago is not going to help. When you are top of mind for them when they come across an opportunity, they’ll contact you.
Even now the economy is beginning its slow but inexorable rise back to prosperity. If you have survived thus far you will likely be around for the next boom. And you will be positioned to take greater responsibility and higher profile positions. That means more money, too.
